Integrative Research Collaboration for Sustainable Tourism in Hotel between Burapha University and Chulalongkorn University

On 13 December 2022, Burapha University and Chulalongkorn University agreed to develop high-impact research for the development of society. As a consequence, Burapha University International College, the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, and the Faculty of Geoinformatics will collaborate with Chulalongkorn University to conduct research into hotels within the Eastern Economic Corridor. The research will focus on carbon emission reduction as a sustainable practice for hotels and other types of accommodations.

Initially, top hotel leaders, who would like to drive environmentally friendly hotel practices, were invited to attend specific training. The training aimed to 1) enhance human capacity and 2) to build environmental awareness about the impact of carbon emissions created by hotel businesses that impact climate change. Secondly, an eco-friendly hotel operation manual for hotel employees will be developed to enhance the green capability of these employees at the operational level. The operations manual will include case studies of successful hotels that are certified as meeting the “Green Hotel” standards. Thirdly, carbon emissions data will be collected in order to measure the carbon emissions baseline. Then, researchers can study various hotels in order to design activities that can reduce hotel carbon emissions. Lastly, eco-friendly products will be developed to generate revenue for local communities.
