Balancing Historical Heritage and Sustainable Urban Development
On 29 February 2024, the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University hosted an enlightening project titled “Ayutthaya vs High-Speed Train: Balancing Historical Heritage with Sustainable Urban Development. ” The event aimed to explore strategies for managing historical cities while pursuing sustainable urban growth, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The project featured a keynote presentation by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rungroj Phiromanukul from the Faculty of Humanities, Ramkhamhaeng University. His insights provided a valuable framework for integrating historical preservation with modern infrastructure developments. The event saw the participation of 250 students who engaged in discussions on how to harmonize the rich heritage of Ayutthaya with the demands of contemporary urban planning.This initiative supports SDG Goal 11, which focuses on creating cities and human settlements that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
