“Asia Pacific social movement and the response to global and regional crisis.”
Faculty of Political Science and Law, Burapha University: the Asia Pacific Social Forum Process Meeting 2024, titled “Asia Pacific Social Movement and the response to global and regional crisis.”
This forum was held at the Faculty of Political Science and Law, Burapha University, between 30th -31st August 2024. It was attended by about 40 international participants from the civil and non-governmental sectors in Asia: Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Myanmar, and Thailand.
The primary objective of this forum was to discuss the strategic plan towards the goal of Asia solidarity. Three key themes were identified which were Peace and Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and Climate Change; these frameworks were crucial for building resilience and facilitating the transitions towards a sustainable future.
The discussion was greatly beneficial to the faculty members and students who participated in the forum with the international activists and gained in-depth and diverse perspectives on social issues and a clearer insight into how Thailand could position itself within the international community.
This program aligns with the university’s strategic plan in various Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), for example, KPI C8: the number of activities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Importantly, it supported various key SDGs, including Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as it promoted human rights and democracy as the foundation of a peaceful and just society and advocated for the collaboration and partnerships between the university, national and international bodies.
