Seminar on Gold and Jewellry Verification

Recognising Chanthaburi’s importance in the gems and jewellery sector, the Faculty of Gems, Burapha University, Chanthaburi Campus, and GIT collaborated on a seminar titled “Gold and Jewellery Verification” on December 9, 2024, during the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewellery Festival 2024. This initiative aimed to bolster public trust and prevent consumer fraud by equipping consumers and businesses in Chanthaburi and nearby regions with comprehensive knowledge of gold and jewellery, from basic principles to advanced verification methods, thereby supporting the local industry’s sustainable growth.

The “Gold and Jewellery Verification” seminar aimed to provide attendees with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of gold and jewellery, encompassing fundamental concepts and advanced inspection techniques. This aimed to enhance public confidence in purchasing and prevent consumer deception, ultimately benefiting both general consumers and business operators within Chanthaburi’s gems and jewellery industry and nearby areas. Furthermore, the seminar sought to transfer valuable knowledge to support the development of the local gems and jewellery industry by fostering a greater understanding of inspection standards and techniques, empowering local entrepreneurs to produce high-quality products and build consumer trust, thus contributing to the sustainable growth of Chanthaburi’s regional industry.

The seminar featured Assistant Professor Dr. Nantharat Bunnag, Dean of the Faculty of Gems, and Mr. Dokkun Bundet, a Helmut Fischer (Thailand) Co., Ltd. representative, as guest speakers. Their lectures aimed to provide attendees with comprehensive knowledge and understanding of gold and jewellery, ranging from fundamental concepts to advanced inspection techniques.

The objective was to enhance public confidence in purchasing and prevent consumer deception, which is especially beneficial for general consumers and business operators in the gems and jewellery industry in Chanthaburi and nearby areas. Key topics of the seminar included:

1) Fundamentals of Gold: Understanding gold as a high-value metal with significant historical and economic roles, as well as its applications beyond adornment and investment, across various industries.

2) Gold and Jewellery for General Consumers: Clarification of essential characteristics such as purity (measured in karats), the different types of gold (Yellow Gold, White Gold, Rose Gold), and significant factors affecting market prices, helping consumers make informed purchasing decisions.

3) Gold Standards in Thailand: An in-depth discussion of the quality and purity standards applied within the country, the role of relevant regulatory bodies, and certification systems that ensure product integrity.

4) Physical and Chemical Properties of Gold: A review of gold’s basic properties—such as density, malleability, and corrosion resistance—is essential for evaluating and verifying gold quality.

This seminar served to educate participants and played a pivotal role in transferring valuable knowledge to support and develop the local gems and jewellery industry. By fostering greater understanding of inspection standards and techniques, the initiative empowers local entrepreneurs to produce high-quality products and build consumer trust, thereby contributing to the sustainable growth of Chanthaburi’s regional industry.
