Cargill Care: Promoting safe rice cultivation Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Burapha University
Cancer is a chronic disease that threatens lives and is the leading cause of death in Thailand. Despite significant advancements in treatment technology, new cases of cancer continue to increase every year. Even though modern medical technology has made great strides, cancer patients still have to endure the suffering caused by the disease. The Faculty of Nursing at Burapha University recognizes its role as an educational institution responsible for producing professional nurses. As a result, they have initiated a collaborative academic service project with Chonburi Cancer Hospital, focusing on ‘Care for Adult Patients with Acute, Chronic, and End-of-Life Conditions in Cancer Patients.’ The project aims to provide participants with knowledge and understanding of caring for adult patients with sudden, chronic, and end-of-life conditions in cancer patients, as well as their families who seek services at Chonburi Cancer Hospital. The project also aims to empower participants to practice self-care to prevent complications, promote health, and achieve basic health recovery. These efforts will ultimately contribute to improving the quality of life for both cancer patients and their families.
The project consists of lectures and demonstrations related to the care of adult patients with acute, chronic, and end-of-life conditions in cancer patients. There are a total of 3 sessions scheduled on December 23, 2022, February 2, 2023, and March 10, 2023, conducted by professors from the Faculty of Nursing, Burapha University. The content scope of the activities includes topics such as caring for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, caring for cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy, managing symptoms that cause distress, breast cancer screening and prevention, physical management, and nutrition for cancer patients. There were a total of 143 participants in the project.
As a result of the project, participants gained a deeper understanding of caring for adult patients with acute, chronic, and end-of-life conditions in cancer patients. This knowledge can be applied to self-care practices and caring for family members, promoting health, preventing complications, and facilitating recovery after cancer treatment. It helps reduce the occurrence of complications that would lead patients to the hospital due to the disease. Moreover, it contributes to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. Additionally, the project fosters academic collaboration with Chonburi Cancer Hospital as a training institution. Furthermore, it contributes to the expertise development of nursing faculty members in the field of adult patient care.
