Strengthening research skills of student teachers at the Faculty of Education, Burapha University

Empowering future educators to equip with the 21st century skills are crucial. Effective teaching practices are dependent on numerous factors, with research skills emerging as a key factor. Strengthening future student teachers with the strong research skills is the activity held by the Faculty of Education at Burapha University, which aimed to empower fourth-year student teachers to gain a better understanding of research knowledge and enhance their research skills in order to conduct actual classroom research in their school settings.

In this activity, it was organized on July 21, 2023, student teachers were encouraged to think about research problems which are challenges they encountered in real classroom settings and identified effective strategies or techniques for resolution, which could be accommodating learning activities, utilizing technology, adapting classroom management techniques or innovative teaching methods. They also learnt about the necessary research skills, such as sampling design, measurement design, and analysis design, to help them conduct their own classroom research. Additionally, learning resources and examples of classroom research were provided.

This aligns with the 4th Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations of ensuring quality of education for all. Professional growth and development in research skills is the concrete step to quality of education. Professional growth and development are key impacts of this activity, contributing to more effective teaching, empowering student teachers to understand the teaching and learning in the classroom and making decisions on their instructional strategies to improve student outcomes. Accordingly, strengthening classroom research skills for student teachers is necessary to improve the quality of education.
