Initiative to Enhance Understanding of the BCG Economic Model
and Cultivate Agricultural Skills within the Framework of the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy
for Faculty of Logistics Personnel at Burapha University
From January 31st to February 1st, 2024, at Burapha University’s Sra Kaeo Campus, the Faculty of Logistics engaged in a project aimed at promoting understanding of the BCG economic model and fostering agricultural skills aligned with the “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” within the framework of Corporate BCG and the Sufficient Economy Model. This initiative specifically targets personnel within the Faculty of Logistics at Burapha University and is jointly led by the executive teams of both the Faculty of Logistics and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, with participation from faculty members and staff of the Faculty of Logistics. The project activities are designed to emulate the principles of agricultural philosophy. One of the key objectives of learning the BCG economic model in this context is to equip faculty members and staff with a comprehensive understanding of the Smart Farming and Smart Supply Chain curriculum. This knowledge enables them to effectively communicate curriculum details to potential future students, thereby contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education. By enhancing educational offerings and empowering faculty members to impart knowledge effectively, the project aligns with the goal of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all. Furthermore, the project’s focus on learning agricultural skills and exploring the BCG economic model also contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. By equipping individuals with practical agricultural skills and knowledge of economic models, the project supports the creation of decent work opportunities and fosters economic growth within agricultural sectors. These skills not only enhance employability but also contribute to the development of sustainable livelihoods, promoting economic growth and resilience.
The project’s inception stemmed from the exploration of production methods and cost control strategies through the cultivation of economically viable crops, with a focus on enhancing quality of life and promoting environmental sustainability. During the project, various agricultural activities were conducted, including soil preparation, cultivation of young medicinal plants renowned for their anti-aging properties, such as “Wan Prong Fa,” known for its refreshing aroma that alleviates fatigue. Additionally, special activities included the planting of sorghum seeds, a heat and sunlight-tolerant plant suitable for the Thai climate, with value-added processes such as malt production for crafting sorghum beer (Craft Beer), among others. The project is scheduled to continue until the agricultural product processing stage planned for April 2024.
