Body Fluid Analysis Workshop Project 2024
The analysis of body fluids is a laboratory diagnostic procedure that aids in diagnosing diseases related to various body fluids, such as cerebrospinal fluid, abdominal fluid, synovial fluid, and other body fluids. Abnormalities may be caused by infections, inflammation, cancer, tumours, and immune system disorders, leading to changes in the cells and fluids that make up the body fluids. The analysis of body fluids can indicate changes or abnormalities in various fluids using simple methods that do not require expensive equipment. However, practitioners must have the knowledge and skills to prepare samples properly, analyse them, and accurately report results to assist physicians in treatment. Therefore, the Medical Technology Department of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Burapha University, has organised a workshop on body fluid analysis to review and enhance the skills of personnel working in clinical pathology.
Objectives:
- To review and enhance academic knowledge on body fluid analysis.
- To practice preparing, analysing, and reporting body fluid analysis results.
Conducting activities to provide knowledge and skills to medical technologists, medical scientists, medical science officers, and personnel working in clinical pathology. The activities are divided into two parts:
1. Lecture Section by expert speakers in medical technology on the following topics:
1.1) Clinical significance and basic technique of body fluid examination
1.2) Synovial fluid
1.3) Cerebrospinal fluid
1.4) Serous fluid
1.5) Pitfalls in Body Fluid Examination
2. Practical Section by a team of expert medical technologists on the following topics:
2.1) Smear preparation and cell count
2.2) Synovial fluid and cerebrospinal fluid examination
2.3) Serous fluid examination
Impacts of the Project:
- The trainees reviewed and enhanced their knowledge about body fluid analysis.
- The trainees developed skills related to body fluid analysis, which can be applied clinically for daily routine analysis.
