Developed Financial Literacy for the community
The issue of living paycheck to paycheck, lacking savings, and making online purchases without sufficient funds stems from a fundamental problem: inadequate financial knowledge and understanding. The Finance Department of Burapha Business School acknowledges that insufficient financial literacy can lead to poor money management practices, resulting in long-term financial instability, potential personal bankruptcy, and a persistent burden on both family and society. Thus, it is imperative to instil financial knowledge from an early age. In response to this need, on August 23, a group of 64 finance students and faculty members organized a project to provide financial education to junior high school students at Ang Sila Pittayakom School in Chonburi Province. The project aimed to deliver financial knowledge, planning, and problem-solving activities to 290 Grade 9 students. The activities included introductions by the finance students, ice-breaking exercises through recreational games, providing age-appropriate knowledge on savings and investments, a brief quiz using the Kahoot online platform, and practical experience in entrepreneurship through an investment training game. This game was designed to develop skills in bidding for goods at reasonable costs, setting product prices, presenting and selling products, making decisions, and performing basic profit and loss calculations. The objectives of this project are twofold: first, to enable finance major students to apply financial knowledge and innovations from the classroom to community development in the Eastern region; and second, to conduct activities that align with Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, while advancing financial competencies through technology within the community. This project not only provided financial education to 290 Grade 9 students at Ang Sila Pittayakom School but also served as a valuable opportunity for finance students at Burapha Business School to develop teamwork skills. It involved planning, executing, and addressing any issues that arose, as well as enhancing their ability to convey financial knowledge to others. These skills are essential for the future careers of finance students.
