"SDGs in Action" (Zero Waste)
In our daily lives, the use of plastic bags has become increasingly common, leading to waste creation that many have become accustomed to. Burapha University recognizes the importance of and is committed to the Zero Waste principle. The goal is to reduce waste by gradually changing behaviors in the hopes of decreasing waste volume and instilling awareness and habits in everyone.
On September 11, 2024, the Central Administration Division, Office of the President, pioneered the first “SDGs in Action: Integrating Work for Sustainability” learning exchange activity of the year. The event was held at the Office of the President for staff members to promote understanding and participation in reducing daily work-related waste. Assistant Professor Dr. Panwalai Kawara, Assistant to the President for International Relations, gave an informative lecture on types of waste and shared practices on contributing to sustainable waste reduction in daily work life under the concept of “SDGs in Action.” The event was also supported by Dr. Patcharee Thong-ampai, Assistant President for Special Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Tuangtong Soraprasert, Assistant President for Cooperate Identity, who advocated and provided guidelines for reducing waste in the workplace.
The activity encouraged all staff to share their opinions and perspectives on waste reduction in various workplaces, serving as a pilot for the Office of the President’s employees. Participants gained clearer knowledge on waste segregation and disposal, which they can apply in their daily lives and pass on to their families and children.
It is evident that organizing activities within departments is not limited to a specific group of people. Burapha University hopes that the clear understanding and knowledge beginning with our university staff will lead to the dissemination of this knowledge to those around them, gradually extending changed behaviors into society sustainably.
